Caring for Fine Silver & Pewter
Pewter Information:
The
pewter used in all Empire Pewter, Salisbury, and Web Pewter items is lead free and suitable
for consumption. We only sell pewter items made in the U.S.A
Pewter is a soft metal with a low melting point, so DO NOT put your pewter
items into the dishwasher. Hand wash your items carefully in warm
soapy water. Store all of your pewter items upright to prevent warping
over time.

Caring
for Fine Silver & Pewter:
A bonus with pewter is that it does not tarnish! It can, however, be polished with silver polishing cloths, or washed in warm soapy water.
Polishes or cloths specifically designed for silver should be used to remove tarnish from fine silver products if they tarnish. Be sure to carefully read labels and warnings on other polishes before using on silver.
We do not recommend putting sterling or pewter in the dishwasher, as discoloration can occur. Also, pewter has a low melting point (400 F.) and could become warped if the dishwasher is too hot. Both should be washed in warm, soapy water and dried with a soft cloth (to avoid scratching). Both should be stored in their original packaging.

Which
items come gift boxed from Silver Gallery?
Almost everything! The only items
NOT gift-boxed are the glass drinking items (old-fashioneds, tankards, pints, drinking jars, etc.) as well as some other cast items such as crab knives and mallets, magnets and figurines. Otherwise, all items come
beautifully displayed in a decorative and sturdy gift box.

What is the difference between Salisbury Silver
and Web Silver products?
Web Silver is a line of products from Web Pewter and Sterling (a 50-year-old manufacturer located in Philadelphia, Pa.,) which has continued since Web Pewter and Sterling was acquired by Salisbury Pewter in 1998. So, the main difference is simply in packaging.

What
if I want a particular item in a different finish or style?
What if I want a particular item in a different finish or style?
Ask us! We can handle your custom order with a variety of manufacturers that are hand crafted, you will find that some items can be ordered in a different finish or style that you may not see on the web site.
Sterling comes as you see it in photographs ... naturally, with a bright finish, both inside and out. Pewter can come in two different finishes -- either polished or brushed. (Brushed gives it an antiqued appearance).
Salisbury pewter items will be shipped with a high polish, unless you ask for it otherwise. Pewter is traditionally always brushed on the inside (for example the inside of a cup or bowl). This helps to hide any scratches that may occur.
Neither pewter nor sterling items are lacquered since lacquer would eventually peel, making the product undesirable.
To find out about alternate options, simply call Silver Gallery Customer Service at 800-582-7758. Our representatives will be glad to help you.

How
do I remove candle wax from my candlesticks?
Candle wax can be removed by carefully "picking it off." If the item is placed in the freezer for about 30 minutes, candle wax is even easier to see and remove. Then, use a pewter or sterling polish to restore the sheen.
